Spotlight - Horizon Residence and 1TEN on Whyte Part 1

In this week’s blog, we reached out to Kirsten Battersby, the General manager of Horizon Residence and 1Ten on Whyte for a question and answer session. Over the last couple of months, RentWhiz has been promoting Horizon Residence and 1TEN on Whyte to our community members in Edmonton on our discounts, promotions and deals page. So, we wanted to give you an inside look into Horizon Residence and 1TEN on Whyte in case you're looking for affordable, all-inclusive, fully furnished student rentals in Edmonton. Tell us a bit about your job with Horizon Residence and 1TEN on Whyte

As General Manager, I manage all aspects of the properties and work as a liaison with building owners, contractors, students and parents. I am responsible for all areas of finance, leasing, maintenance and administration.

How big is your team that helps you manage and operate these properties?

We have 8 team members that work on the sites on a daily basis.

How many units do you have in Horizon Residence and how many do you have in 1Ten On Whyte?

311 at Horizon, 72 at 1Ten on Whyte.

What's the main difference between 1TEN on Whyte and Horizon Residence?

1Ten services exclusively University of Alberta students whereas Horizon provides housing for MacEwan, Norquest, NAIT and MC College students.

What are some of the benefits to students living in your properties that other properties may not offer?

The biggest benefit are the enhanced amenities, extra customer service and catered student experience.

What are some of the challenges you face while managing your properties?

Typically we spend much of the term of the school year helping our Residents understand how the building operates and, for those on their own for the first time, we are helping them learn the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of independent living.
