The Most Important Housing Amenities and Extras

In this week’s blog, we browsed through some of our previous postings from our Facebook groups and identified the most important and popular amenities and extras that renters look out for. So landlords, if you are ever posting a listing for your apartment, condominium or house, make sure you emphasize and highlight these amenities if they are available.

Separate bathrooms

We are guessing this one pops up a lot because in most cases, we deal with people who are looking for a roommate or shared accommodation, and if you are sharing a living space, having your own bathroom can make life a little bit easier.

In suite dishwasher

Although these are standard nowadays, having an in suite dishwasher can save you a lot of time when it comes to doing dishes. The other benefit is it makes it easier to figure out whose turn it is to do the dishes when all you have to do is put in the pod and turn on the dishwasher. The hardest part about this is probably unloading the dishwasher.

In suite washer and dryer

Sometimes people ask for this and we are assuming it’s because it’s very convenient since you don’t have to leave the unit or wait in line if someone else is using it. Having an in suite washer and dryer also means you get to save some money since you do not have to use coins or tokens to wash your clothes. If you rent includes electricity and water, then all you really have to worry about is spending time.

Good transportation options

If a student cannot get a place close to their school, then they are probably going to find a place that has good public transportation options to their school. Time is one of the most valuable resources for students, so this comes as no surprise.

Internet

This one is a no brainer since it’s almost impossible to live without the internet today. Most renters will ask if the rent includes internet, and if it doesn’t, they can always get it on their own since there are a lot of student friendly offers out there. Landlords, if your lease includes internet, it may be a good incentive to get a tenant. Cable isn’t as popular nowadays but it doesn’t hurt.

Pet friendly

This one probably comes up a lot because someone who has a pet is going to ask for a unit or apartment that allows pets or is pet friendly.

Parking

Like pet friendly apartments and condominiums, this one probably pops up because someone who has a car is going to ask for a place that has at least one parking spot.
