Spotlight - Horizon Residence and 1TEN on Whyte Part 2
In our previous blog we shared part one of our question and answer session with Kirsten Battersby, the General manager of Horizon Residence and 1Ten on Whyte. In this blog we, continue and conclude our QnA session. A special thanks to Kirsten Battersby for taking the time to do this interview.
What are some of the challenges you face while managing your properties?
Typically we spend much of the term of the school year helping our Residents understand how the building operates and, for those on their own for the first time, we are helping them learn the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of independent living.
How has Covid 19 impacted your day to day business and what measures have you taken?
We’ve had to close/restrict amenity access, reduce office hours and increase cleaning in the common areas.
Do you have any plans to open up other properties or expand your existing ones in the future?
Our owners are always looking for new opportunities and Edmonton is definitely an ‘up and coming’ market for student housing.
What are some of the key things you look for in a good tenant?
Ideally students come with their own friends, are courteous of other Residents and pay their rent on time!
What advice would you give to students looking for accommodation?
Do your research, ask lots of questions and look into the managers/management company.
Do you currently have any available listings in 1Ten or Horizon Residence?
Yes, about 10 beds at 1Ten and 8 beds at Horizon.
